This rare C J Mason porcelain part tea set consists of a pumpkin shaped teapot, two tea pot stands and four trios. All the pieces are decorated with a hand coloured pattern of a basket of flowers to the centre and, around the rim, a hand coloured print of flowers and bamboo, with the enamel colours still quite vivid. None of the pieces are marked, but the tea pot corresponds to plate 1842 of Berthoud's "Directory of British Teapots" and to plate 2042 in the same author's "Anthology of British Teapots", while the cups are shown in Plate 845 of Berthoud's "A Compendium of British Cups". The stand has a diameter of 227 mm (9 inches) and stands 33 mm (1.25 inches) high. The teapot stands 155 mm (6 inches) to the thumb rest on the handle and has a diameter of 180 mm (7.25 inches). There are are a few small faults- a chip under the spout (ex factory), light crazing, some slightly discoloured areas, a small crack to the inner rim of the tea pot, and a small firing crack to the knop as well as a crack to one cup handle. C1835.
